Education

Holy Trinity Parish is particularly committed to the education of its members—especially its children and teens—as Christ commanded us: “Go, therefore, and make disciples of all nations, baptizing them in the name of the Father, and of the Son, and of the Holy Spirit, teaching them to observe all that I have commanded you” (Matthew 28:19-20a). Having built its own Catholic school in 1901 to fulfill this Gospel mandate, Holy Trinity has a long history of educating its young people.

Today, Holy Trinity provides several different education programs to meet the needs of all its parishioners.

Holy Trinity Grade School
Holy Trinity Grade School has as its mission to form a community of faith based on the teaching of Jesus Christ and to cultivate knowledge by promoting a Catholic way of life through Gospel values and a commitment to academic excellence.

All children—parishioners and non-parishioners, Catholics and non-Catholics alike—are welcome to enroll in our school for their K-6 education. If you are interested in a tour of our facilities or would like to learn more about our school, please contact the principal, Mr. Terry Kathol, by calling the school office at 402-254-6496.

Enrollment for the current school year is 175 students in grades K-6, with an average class size of about 25 students.

Holy Trinity Preschool
In addition to its elementary school program, Holy Trinity is pleased to offer a first-class preschool education with a certified teacher in its own building at its newly renovated site at 203 S. Capitol in Hartington.

The preschool has as its mission to prepare young children to participate successfully in formal schooling. Parents and teachers work cooperatively to assist them in developing positive self-concepts. The uniqueness of each child is the foundation for developing the Christian attitudes of loving, helping, sharing, and developing a relationship with God.

Holy Trinity Preschool offers two program levels: Junior Kindergarten and Preschool. Our Junior Kindergarten is a five-day afternoon program intended to prepare children for entry into kindergarten the following year. Our Preschool program is a three-day morning program intended to introduce children to learning in a classroom setting.

If you are interested in a tour of our facilities or would like to learn more about our preschool, please contact the principal, Mr. Terry Kathol, at the school office by calling 402-254-6496.

Cedar Catholic Jr.-Sr. High School
Holy Trinity is one of six parishes in the area that support our local Catholic high school. Formerly Holy Trinity High School, Cedar Catholic now serves the Catholic faithful across Cedar County and beyond.

Religious Education Program
The Catholic Church understands that the education of children—especially with regard to matters of faith—belongs first and foremost to parents. As a parish community Holy Trinity is committed to assisting parents in this responsibility by providing a Religious Education Program apart from our Catholic schools for all children in grades 1-12.

The elementary program (1-6) meets during the school year. Students will meet once per month (ordinarily the first Wednesday) from 6:30 - 7:30 p.m. Students preparing to receive the Sacraments of First Reconciliation and First Eucharist will be asked to attend a series of six additional classes prior to each Sacrament. These classes are generally held Sunday mornings prior to the 10:30 a.m. Mass.

The junior high and high school program (7-12) meets during the school year on Wednesday evenings at 6:45–8:00 p.m. Grades 7 and 8 meet in a classroom setting at Holy Trinity Elementary School. Grades 9-12 follow what is called the “Godparent Program”. These students meet by grade level at the home of a teaching couple. Students preparing to receive the Sacrament of Confirmation will be asked to attend a series of additional classes during their eighth-grade year.

For more information or to help out in our Religious Education Program, please contact Monica & Colin Kathol, our Director of Religious Education by calling 402-841-5594.
